AUCKLAND, Last Night. Tragedy has come upon the enup family at the Auckland Zoo, with the death of a chick which was successfully hatched out of a sitting of Cight eggs by a patient male bird. For nine weeks the male emu continued his vigil, and his devotiou was rowarded by the healthy appearanco of a young bird. When it wqs hatched out tfio fatficr was doomed to disappointment, however, and after several days of inquisitivo scratching for insects the young emu is no more. Blsewhere at the zoo the atmospheio of gloom has bees completely dispellcd by tho birth of a young Rhesus monkey, which is the centre of intOrest in the centre of the parlc.
