Young Man Killed

WESTPORT, Last Night. An accident on the Buller Gorge road about a mile the other side of Tiroroa at 1.30 p.m. to-day resulted in the death of EIHs Leonard Hawke, single, aged 27 years, and injuries to Claude Thomas Flohai-ty, aged 49, married, with four children, who was admitted to the hospital with a fractured right leg and abrasions to the face and body. The accident oCcurred at the soene of some road widefting operations. The men were engaged in triniming the road surface and water table when without warning a fall occurred from a batter of 25 to 30 tons of rock and earth. Mr Hawke was apparently killed instantaneously.
