Items of Interest on Agenda Paper LAST NIGHT'S MEETING Preparations for the transformation of Napier' s two parks from winter to summer sports grounds are now well in hand. In his monthly report to the Napier Borough Council last evening, Mr R. W. Perrott, actjng superintendent of reserves, stated that cricket and practice wickets have been close-mown and top-dressed, and bare plaees have been turfed and sown. # • • . The Mayor. Mr O. O. '* # • Licence fees amounting to £540 4/9, of which the main item was £487 8/2 for 74 heavy traffic licences. were collected by .the Borough Inspector, Mr A. M. Oliver, during September according to his monthly report to the council. •* # No cases of infectious disease were notified from within the borough of Napier during September. « ® * Comparisoxfs of electricity debits for the five months ended AUgust 31, 1937, with those for the pr-/ ious year were eiven as follows : —
# » c "Traffic on the day of the Springbok versus Hawke's Bay football match was very heavy, and tlianks are due to the Hastings borough traffic inspector, the Hawke's Bay Oounty Council traffic inspector, Automobile Associations' patrols and my own staff for the way in which the traffic was handled in the borough," .said the traffic inspector, Mr A. It is of interest that on the first Friday night of opening We had inquiries which resulted in tho sale of two ranges, one at £163 and the other at £54."- • « « Band subsidies were recommended as follows by the finance committee and approved by the council: — Napier Oit-i-zens' Band, £125, Napier TechnicaJ College Memorial Band £25 (for 193637) and (£50 for 1937-38), Port Pipe Band £12 10/-. * * * A grant of £5 5/0 was approved in answer to an appeal from the New Zealand Five Million Olub for financial assistance. The foundation stone of the new municipal theatre is to be split, one portion commemorating the old theatre and one the rebuilding. The ceremony. of laying the stones is to be completed as soon as possible. * '» # A contribution of £5 51- towards the legal costs of the the transfer of Mr F. L. Gordon's section at Glifton' as a domain, was made.
