STATE THEATRE
"QUALITY STREET" TO-NIGHT. Phoebe Throssel, quaint character of Sir tlamea M. Barrie's "Quality Street,'' first brought to life by Maude Adams, haa '• been recreated by Katharine Hepburn in her own inimitable manner for the screen version of the play which screens to-night at the State Theatre. As co-star, Pran* chot T'one plays the role of JDr. Valentine Brown. A ten-year romance between the two is interrupted by the dashing young doetor 'a enlistment to fight against Napoleon. The situations which arise after Valentine's return form the base of the story. They are in turn quaint, humojous, appealing and strikingly dramatic. Besides Katharine Hepburn and Franchot Tone, the film also presents Pay Bainter, noted stage star, who portrays Susan Throssel, the "old maid" sister of Phoebe. Eric Blore, the funny butler of the Fred Astairie and Ginger Rogers inusicals, is seen as the bluff and hearty reeruiting sergeant. Estei..^ Winwood and Helena Grant, stage tavourites, have the roies of gossipy and curious neighbours, with Cora Witherspoon, another well-known stage actress, as the peppery maid. Florence Lake, Bonita Granville and Joan Fontaine are also seen in prominent' roies.
