MODEL MAORI PA

Gift to Napier Art Gallery The Hawke's Bay Art Gallery has received from the Gbl Guides of Poverty Bay a very fine and valuable gift in the shape of a model of a famous Maori pa with a great historical interest. This is a model of Popoia Pa, one of the most famous pas in the history of New Zealand. It was exhibited last year at Adelaide during the centenary celebrations there, and attracted great attention from visitors. It had previously been exhibited at the Native Land Oourt at Gisborne for some months, because it was the stronghold of one of the most famous Maori chiefs, Ruapani. Faithfully produced, with the exception of pits which exist insido the maia stockade, whevo the Maoxis were said to have lived during the colder months of the year, the model, which is to be exhibited at the niuseum later, is intereeting because of the intricato workmanship ijivolved.
