FLAXMERE CRICKET CLUB
Annual Meeting of Members The annual general meeting of the Flaxmere Cricket Club was very well attended, Mr. J. W. Martin nresidiug. The report and balance-sheet showed that the 1936-37 season was highly successful and a definite improvement in tho playing efliciency of the members o£ the club. Out of the 25 games played, 17 were won, six lbst aud two drawn. Most enjoyable games were played at Wairoa, Dannevirke, Kaiwaka and Hatuma, in addition to various matches played nearer home. During the year considerable imprbvements wero made to the pavilion and surroundings of tho club's ground. The iinancial position of the club, in spite of fairly hoavy expenses, was shown to be quite sound. Special reference was made to the splendid support of the patroness, Mrs. J. T. Wellwood, the president, Mr. J. W. Martin, and the vice-prosidents, Messrs. B. Poppelwell, C. Stubbs and G. Si-mmons, all of whom were enthusiastically re-elected. Messrs. E. J. MeKay and L. Blggar were also eleeted as vice-presidents. Keen appreciation of the untiring efforts of the ladies was expressed, the preparation of afternoon teas and lunches contributing very largely to the en-joyment of the season. Tribute also was paid to the Press for its generous consideration towai'ds the various activities of the Flaxmere Cricket Club. Mr. Neil Dorreen and Mr. Arthur Mahoney were unanimously re-elected captain and vico-captain respectively, 'several members speaking eulogistically
1 of the outstandiug leadership of these two players to whom the higher standard of cricket played by the club was greatly due.
