VISIT TO NATIVE BUSH
Hastings West School Pupils' Exploration ENJOYABLE OUTING On Thursday last Form I and II pupils of the Hastings West School, numbering between 60 and 70 under the supervision of the headmaster, (irst assistant master and a senior ; mistress visited tlie native bush on Mr | Geo. Simmons's property at Kereru. I On arrival at about 10.30 the party was met by Mr Simmons and taken ; to the edge of the bush. After a very nearty meal the long-looked-for exploration for suitable native shrubs, etc., begnn under the | direction of Messrs Britten and Trum- [ per, school conunittccmcu. ' The outing was thoroughly enjoyed by all, particuiarly by the children, many ot whom made their first visit to a native bush, ln their explorations in the bush they not only made the acquaintance of New Zealand birds in their naturai environments, but they were also very eager to learn the names of the trees, shrubs and ferns and to discover samples for themselves. Not the least enjoyable part of the day from tbe pupils' point of view, waa the journey in the carst bus and lorry. wrhcn they kept up a continuous round of sing-ing. Thanks arc oxteaulod to -Messrs Gordon Walker, Harvey and Murley for kindly conveyiug the children to the bush and back.
