Although the Hawke's Bay spring meeting is only a 'week off there wa* not a great deal of fast work this morning, the reason being that the big majority of the h'orses were. galloped under racing conditions at the parade on Thursday. The tracks are in excellent- order, hence the good times registered. Where not specified the following gallops were executed on the plough,A heavy fog prevented operationa from starting early. • Royal Minstrel (H., Gilmer) went twice round to come home the last si against the bit in lmin. 20secs. , ® # •' Pakanui (1. Briggs) was responsible for an attraetive. gallop when registering lmin. 16secs. for three-quarters of a -mile. His co.ndition could notbe b?ttered so that he should very soon win again. - * • * ■ An impxessive gallop was executed by Mastcr Cykloh (B'. Stowe), who ran his six furlongs on the coiirse, proper in lmin. lajsecs., which at any time it ahove the average, but this morning the trestles were 24 feet out over the distance. He was brought home the last half-mile- by the Resinous filly .(Ireland) when the paiir finished together^ Tullamore, looking a picture, with' young Cullen in the saddle, was not out to make time, taking 52secs. for thg half-mile. • . # . • On the course proper Blue Shirt (B, Stowe) and Padishah (Cullen) • were asso'ciated in a gallop over a mile. From the word so Blue Shirt made the pace » cracker and succeeded in carting Padishah offi his feet, to run home at least three leugths in front in the very fair time of lmin. 45Jsecs. • • • Oha (Jreland) and Marchiug On (J* Walsli) took 65secs. for th'eir five furlongs, but conld have bettered this if pushed. # # • Trailer (J. Olsen) registered eimilar time over the same distance* and he too held something in 'reserye. Tres Sec (J. Walsh)^ a fit horse for the Gloucester Cup, rau the last five furlongs of two rounds in C6secs. in easy fashion, e e e ■ Royal Spades (J. , Walsh) sprinted three against the bit in 40secs. Tiger Gain • (C,: Shields) and Jo'urnet (A. Griffiths) were given. a couple of round* at solid pace work. Winitangi (J. Dooley) took 68secs. for a five-furlong working gallop^ * ■ . • • # Gasman ( J. Walsh)' and Fossicker (C. Shields),- two hatik sprinters, -registered 5.Hsecs. comfortably for four filrlongs. On the course proper Anuhis and Star Lad (S. Plier) were sent half a mile, running 52sees. and doing it nicoly within themselves. o # • Red Rufus (C. Plier), moving short in front, ran his once round in lmin. 47secs. * * • Three Duke of Gloucester Cup candidates in Kahikatoa (G. Greene), Parry (N. A. Cowie) and Mercian Princo (Lock) were associated in a seyen-fur-long gallop, which occupied lmin. 3Ssecs. They went off at a very slow pace to run the first furlongs in 18secs. to come home the last six in lmin. 2lsees. and the four in 55secs. The three finished abreaist with nothing.to choosc between them as all appeared to be at their best pace. * • • Over seven furlongs Hamarin (C. Plier) appeared to have the measure of Mahutai (I. Briggs) in lmin. 34secs , a fair gallop. » © • " Le Torquet (J. Dooley) from a slow start ran half a mile in 5'Jsecs. © 0 ^ On tlie course proper Diana Trectrix (J. McNaughton) registered 52secs. for four furlongs, being assisted honio tlie last quarter by Sardhu (R. Colello). © « • In a round over the sehooling hurdles Blue Tiger (J. Dooley) gave a neat and fast exhibition of jumping. * # ., • Cletrac (J. McNaughton) alone got to the end of once round1 in lmin. 424secs., a fair effort, as with a mate the task would have beeu simplified from a time point, of view.
