(Received 2, 8.45 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Oct. 1. * The fiercest battle of the campaign is raging in the Lotien iector, where, with the aid of tanks and artillery, the Japanese ®re trying to cut a gap to isolate the Chinese concentrations ato Liuho. The Chinese admit the loss of a" few outposts, but claim that the main line is intact. The casualties on both sldes are stated to be heavy. It is estimated that 100,000 Japanese are massed against China's 22-mile "iron belt" from Chapei to Liuho. For the eighth time, the "Bridge of Eternal Peace," near the International Settlement, has changea hands, It is now held by Ihe Japanese. Later: The Japanese have captured Liuchiang, north- west of JShanghai, and have also entered the Shantung province. Aceording to a report from Tokio, it is officially denied that Japanese soldiers, as stated in an issue of the London Daily Mirror, used the dead bodies of Chinese for bayonet and sabre practice. Daily conferences are being held at the Japanese Foreign iDIfic to decide on the restrictions of imports. The plan includes 800 commodities, ineluding raw cotton and wool, and will deal a blow to British, French, German and Swiss trade.
