Buddhist Revival Launched in India by Chinese Groups
. SIMLA. A movement seeking thc revival of Buddhism has been launehed in India. Chinese Buddhists are at the back of it, but it is stated to have influential support and making headway in a programme for the erection of a nnmber of temple buildings. The Buddhist religion was started in India several thousand years ago. It was in assence a reform movement among Hindus and its originator was a young prince Siddharta. It swspt over the country and spread from India to Ceylon, Tibet, China and other countries. The Brahmin priesthood of the Hindus fought against it and finally crushed it- after 1000 years. The new plan is to bring about a revival in both China and India and as Buddhism has strongly remained in China to the present day its impetus appears to have ■ come from that country. Allied "vVith the purely Teligious aspect of the new movement is the ideal of establishing closer contact betwcen the two countries.
