SEPTEMBER RAINFALL
Total for Nine Months Stiil Below Last Year Though there waa more rain last month than for September of last year the total rainfall for the nine months of the year is still very considerably below that for the same period last year, there having been an unusually dry year recorded to date. In his monthly report Mr. H. N. Fowler, Government Meteorological Observer at Cornwall Park, points out that last month 2.29 inches of 'rain wero recorded, compared with 1.20 inches in September of last year. Thougb on the morning of September 1 last there was a reading of 1.06 inches, this figure is included in the August returns to the department, and this accounts for the diilerence in the ofileial recordings and those publishcd daily in the HeraldTribune. So far this year Mr. Fowler points out that there has been 15.26 inches of rain as against 36.34 inches for the first nine months of last year. The details of tlie rainfall last month are given as follows: — Sept. 1st, .04ins; 3rd, ,28ins; 4th, ;96ins; 5th, .37ins; 6th, .23ins; 15th, .Olins; 16th, ,05ins; 21st, .02ins; 22nd, .Olins; 25th, .28ins; 27th, .02ins; 30th, .02ins. Total. 2.29 inches.
The highest maximum temperature in the screen last month was 70.2 degrees. the mean maximum being 60.4 degrees; while the lowest minimum in the screen was 28 degrees, and the mean minimum 40.4 degrees. The lowest on the grass was 17 degrees, the mean lowest being 33.4 degrees. The range of temperature was 20 degrees and the mean temprature for the month 50.4 degrees, There were 12 frosts recorded last monlh, the lowest reading being 13.3 degrees of frost. Prevailing winds were south on 13 days, south-east on seven days, north-north-east on six days and nortli-west on four davs. Glencoe Station Reowds. The highest rainfall for the month of September during tlie past five yeara was recorded by Mr. L. Maclean, of Glencoe Station, last month, when 3.85 inches of rain fell, bringing the total for the nine months to date up. to 24.49 inches.
