OBITUARY
MR. JOHN NEILS0N A very olcl and greatly esteeemd resident of Napier, Mr. John Neilson, passed away at his residence, Selwyn road, on Tuesday, in his 85th year. The iate Mr. Neilson was born in Coatbridge, Scotland,' and came to New Zealand in 1877 in the s.s. Tararua. During the first ' 10 years of his residence in New Zealand he was engaged in business as a jeweller at Waimate, South C'anterbury, and late m the eighties canle to Napier, where he bought the old-establiShed, watchmaking and jewellery business formerly conducted by Mr, V. Jensen, in Emerson street. . / The late Mr. Neilson, previous to reLiring from business life' took an active
part in myslcal matters. He was vicepi'esident of: the. Napier Harmonic Society and was for some years leader oi the JBresbyterian Choir iu Waimate and in St. Paul's Church, Napier. ' He was a chieftain of the Hawke's Bay Highland Society in 1902 and one of the original- menibers of- that body. He was a( member of the Napier District School Cdmmittee and was also a past member of the Napier -Bowiing and Savage C'lubs, besides • being one of the oldest '.uemhers of the Scinde Masonic Lodge. He leaves a'wife and one son, Air W. Neilson, jeweller, of Napier, and four daughters, Mrs. W. O. Carbon (Hamilton), Mrs. A. Stuart (Palmerston North), and the Misses Alice and Gertj Neilson (Napier) to mourn their loss. ji The fiineral took place irom^tffl l'aul's Presbyteri.an Church yes|d^^H niorning.
