BUILDING ACTIVITY
September a Very Quiet Month $ hastings figures September was an exceptionally light month as regards new building enterprises in Hastings, there being issued only nine permits for buildings estimated to cost jjust under £2000. Though these figures compare most unfavourably with those for most months during the past six or seven years, they are by no means the lowest. In 1933 there was a big lull in building activities in Hastings, and in February of that year only two permits were issued, one for a horsebox and the other for a garage. Then in May and June, though more permits were issued than was the case last month, the total value'of the work for those two periods amounted to £1493 and £1760 respectively, somewhat lower than that recorded last month. To date this year 104 permits have been issued for buildings estimated to cost £42,856, as compared with 172 permits amounting to £76,424 for "the same period last year. Details of last month 's building, as supplied by the Inspeetor, Mr C. Carrell, are as follow: — No. of ' „ • ; ,-Value Permits Purpose . in £ 1. Dwelling ................ 690 1.
