Suggestion in the House "RIGHT MAN IN RIGHT PLACE"

(By Telpsraph-

WELLINGTON, Last Niglit. The suggestion that the Government should take steps to have a title conferred on Mr. W. J. Jordan, High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, was made by Mr. E. J.' Howard (Government, Christchurch South) during 'the discussion'on the report of the proceedings of the Imperial Conference in the House of Eepresentatives today. . - i

Mr. Howard paid a tribute to the work which is being carried out overseas by Mr. Jordan. "Whether it is at the League oi' Nations at Geneva or at i'uncfions in the city of Loudon," he sai.*, "Bill Jordan iits in. He is the.z*iglit man in ihe riglit place, and his work is a credit to New Zealand. ■ "However, without vvishing to eiubarrass the Government, 1 should like to put in a plea that our High Commissioner should have a title. One must have some understanding of the atmospliere of England to appreciato the necessity for this. 1 do not say that he should be calied *Sir' or 'Lord,' or anything like that, but I think he should at least be entitled to the descriptioh 'honourable.' At present when there are functions in London one hears the announcement of 'Sir Somebody' or 'Lord So and So,' and then Jiill Jordan."
