■WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Legislative Council met at -2.30. Replying to points ib the Address-in-Reply, the Leader of the Council, Hon. M. Fagan, said that he considered the Government had done the right thing in making eottages for workers. He had seen flats for workers in Britain, and while flats might be suitable for those who could be from home a great deal, they were too depressing and lacking in privacy for a working-class housewife. New Zealand still had ample xoom to build individual homes, and with modern transport workers could go 20 miles out of cities. Commenting on Hon. C. J. Carrington 's xemarks regarding Communism, Hon. M. Fagan said the Communists had no association with the Labour Party, and there was no sign of Communism in the Labour legislation. Mr Fagan said the Government had provided ten scholarships for training Maori girls as nurses, and between 30 and 40 were already nursing in New Zealand. Mr Fagan also announced that the Government would bring down legislation to take over all the oil resources in New Zealand, so that they would have the right to graut icases. This I eourso would have the effect of encouraging ovorsons eupiiui aad iNw Zealand wanted overscas oil experts to help produce oil. A good oil discqverj would be the surest way to continufcc prosperity in New Zealand and even t supply sufficient for New Zealand onlj would be a great help. If private enter prise could not deveiop oil the Govera ment would mako the Tcquired effort. The debate was concluded and the Fair Rents Amendpienfc Bill und Industrial Coneiliat.ioii abd Arbitration Amendment Bill were put through all stages and passed. Tho Council adjourned until Oo'fcober 12.
