Equipped with a whirling disc that governs ihe exposure in dill'erent parts of the "picture, a special camera has been desigued to photograpb solar eelipses. The corona, seen around the sun only when the moon covers the solar disc, ordinarily is difficult to photograph because it is impossible to record its faint, outer edges without overexposing tlie brilliant portion nearest Ihe sun. The new device, employed for the first timo 111 the eclipse of June, 1037, makes use of a pierced disc rotating in front of the camera lens at 100 revolutions a minute. Four oponings in the disc aTO arranged so that at the outer edge, where fuiJ exposure is needed, almost all the Ugni from the cqroiia is permitted to pass into the camera. Near the centre of the disc, the openings are constructed to prevent over-exposure of this part of tlhe pieture.
