WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

^ Ruakituri Institute A meeting of the Ruakituri Women's Institute was lield in the Institute Hall. There was a good attendance. In her address the president, Mrs Berry, welcoined visitors and members, especially Mrs Renner and Mrs Spence who had been unable to attend for many months. Miss Spence jvas chosen as delegate to the half-yearly council meeting in Wairoa, Continuing with the monthly custom of reatling an article from "Home and Country", Mrs Davis read an amusing selectdon. Mrs E. C. Winder gave an interesting and illuminating lecturette on her trip to the Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers. Merriment*was caused by :a competition to draw the president, ]some of the drawings being surprisingly well done. Miss L. Spence gave a simple demonstration on sewing edges. She also won the competition for the best article for the show collection, with a pair of home-mado gloves. The hostesscs for the day were Mrs Butler and Mrs S. Spence, their hints being, tliat to kec£ parsley fresh, put it in an airtight jar, and that to lengthen the lii'e of a toreh battcry, put the battery on the rack for about an hour and it will last much longcr.
