■ ip m Motoirisls Refore Hastings Court Bruce Ian Fulton, of Auckland, and formerly of Hastings, was fined 15/with costs of 24/- by Mr J. Miller, S.M.j in the Hastings Magistrate's Court this morning for driving a motor-car in Soirthland road Avithout dhe care and attention. A plera of guilty was entered by Mr W. E. Bate on behalf of Fulton, who did not appear. Senior-Sergeant G. Sivyer said that Fulton had tried to cut a corner iii front of another vehicie and, iii so doing, had collided with a cyclist. Thete was no question of speed. The defendant was a school-teacher in Auckland, said Mr Bate. He had until recently been a master at the Hastings High Bchool and had re-visited Hastings during the school holidays, when the offence'had been committed. Although he was generally a careful driver, his attention at the time had been distracted and he had not seen the cyclist. A similar case where a motorist tried to cut a corner in front of another car and collided with it resulted in the appearance of Henry H. Beckett on a charge of driving without due care aiid attention in Heretaunga strefet. A fino of £1 with costs 13/- was entered. On a further ciiarge of driving a motor-car without being ,the holddr of a driver 's licence," Beckett was fined 10/- with Costs of a similar amount. He had fiever held a licence for a car, although he had one for a motor-cycle, said Senior-Sergeant Sivyer. The offence was committed at night and heavy rain and dazzling lights had mado it diffieult for Beckett to judge liis position, said Mr H. G. Carr, who appeared for the defendant and entered a plea of guilty to both charges. The car was not his and defendant had taken it out to take his sister along the road in the raip. For riding an unlighted cycle on the Hastings-Palmerston North highway John, W. Butcher was proceeded against .by Traffic-Inspector J. H. R. Semple, who said that defendant had put on speed when he tried. to catch him and had hidden in a gateway. A jfine of 15/- with costs 10/- was imposed.
