Local Bodies Being Asked to Contribute COSTS OF TRANSFIR Although; the small amount of £26 16/10, remaiks to be collected from in-. terested local bodies and organisations tor the payment of the trahsfer fees in connectio'n. with the transfer of land at Clifton for domain purposes, there appears to be a . reluctance to cbntribute. Portion ,of the amount has now been promised, however, and the Napier Thirty Thousand. Club, which is actin'g as collector for; the money , to-day eircularised Hastings and Napier local bodies and organisations asking for contributions. Letters have been sent to the Hawke's Bay County Council, the Hastings Borough Council, the Napier Borough Council, the Hastings and District Progress League,- the Havelock Nortk Town Boara, the Taradale Town Board, the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, and the Napier Chamber of Commerce, while the Napier • ThirtV Thousand Club is also to. contribute. The Department of Lands and Survey has already paid the costs of survey, and the costs of the Crown Solicitor, amounting to approximately £45, whilo Oarlile, McLean, gcannell and Wood, who' actedi for Mr. Gordon, have* promised a donation of £5 5/-. "The position. is," explained the secretary of the Thirty Thousand Club, Mr. S. P. Spiller, this. morning, "that until the costs are paid the transfer of the land,' and the setting-up of the controlling board,' caniibt be effected. When the money is forthcoming, it is proposed immediately to set about usihg the £100 donation^; promised by Mr. Husheer for the construction of a boundary, fence and - convenienees, . so that the area will be realy for the'commencement of- the visitihg season, early in November." •
