Police Report Discussed By Committee LICENSEE DOES NOT APPEAR The quarterly meeting of the Rotorua Distriet Licensing Committee which was adjourned on September 8 to enable Mr. J. A. Asher, licensee of tho Tokaanu Hotel, to attend to discuss objections raised in the police report concerning tlie method of the sale of bottle liquor at the hotel, was resumed at the Rotorua Courthouse on Friday.^ Mr. G. Urquhart, who, at the original hearing, had appeared for the licensee, stated that be had received no further instructions from his client who, he had . discovered by a telephone comwnnication, was absent at Kawhai. He said that he had been told that Mr. Asher had been at Kawhia for » week and from that he assumed that he had not received the notice which had been sent to him by the clerk of the committee. He did not think that his client would deJiberately tlout the instructions of the committee. Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., chairman of the committee, expressed the opinion that the matter contained in the police report was one which the Magistrate at Taupo should have ddalt with in connection wtb a recent prosecution which had come before him. The committee, he said, had no jurisdiction to qonsider the matter other than at an annual meeting and all it could do jxoxv was to keep the question jn view until tlie nest annual meeting.
