JAMBOREE
Whai is this strange word's derivation? How camo it to he since 1920 an international term common to boys of many races and vnried tonguos? Sorao will have it that B.P,, always a man of quaint fancies, was the inventor. What is more plausible is that, having once heard it in his earlier wanderings^ and maybe forgotten it, he conjured it up from the inner recesses of his mind when some unusual, expressive name wii nMded for tll» rtlly of youth. Jamboree is just American slang for
- ~ _ % merryrmaking ,and, much older than ; Scoqthig. But Scouting has certainly given it resp'ectability and a . vogue. Strictly -it .meaiit "a wild, noisy. sort of carousal, and that, we ' know, is distinctly not its meaning -to-day.
