TWO DEMONSTRATIONS AT GUILD MEETING

The monthly me'eting of the arts and crafts circle of the Hastings Towns•women 's Guild was held in the W.D.F.U. room on Thursday, Mil "L. W. Goldfinch presi.ding over a large attendance of members and with her was Mrs A, C. A. Hyde, the circle secretary. Apologies for absence were xeeeived from Mrs A. F, Gleniiy, Mrs F. Deaus, Mrs E. Riley and • Mrs Darper, Tha ieader annouuced, that a sociui evening would be held on Thursday, October v, m aid of guild funds. Miss Ashenden was then introduced and gave a most instructive lesson in niaking wood fibre flowers. Eacn pruce&a 1 was siiown and f ully expiainea and the eompleted eprays were very much admired. Carna.tions, geraniums, ■ and asters were. all niade and the lesson proved most interesting, Miss Ashendeu ueing a very able instructor. After tea had been dispcnsed Mrs Fowler, Mi's McCormack, Mrs E. E. Smith and Miss Weaver and several members showed how smoeking was done and the many stitches ustsd for this attractive worlc. Several members came prepare.d with material and cottons and gained much useful knowledge from their many instructors, ■, The competition for the besit knitted articie, judged by Mrs McCormack and Miss "VVeaver, brought forth a -very large entry and the judges had great diflieulty in awarding the prizes, the work being cxcellent. Mrs McAuiay was placed flrst, Mrs Gardner 2, Mrs Rood 3, Mrs Baumgart v.h.c.. Mrs McLean h.c. and Mrs Rood c. The buttor sponge competition resulted: Mrs Goldflnch 1, Mrs Kirkhatn 2, Mrs Hydo 3, the judge being Mrs E. Smith. Members were invited to bring. articles suitabie for Christmas giftsy and demonstrato, them at the October meeting. There would' also be a' competition for the best raisin cake. A bring and buy stall did good business, the" competition sponges bemg also sold for guild funds. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a most interesting meeting, a hearty voto of thanks having been. accord'ed' the demoustrators and judges. It was also annouuced that there would be a meeting of the guild executive at the G.F.S. room at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sei>tember 29.
