MR. ERIC GEORGE WELLS

The death occurred in Hastings on Saturday of Mr Eric George Wells, at the age of 28 years. He competed in the recent championship touruament and' was to have played off in the final of the junior championships, but he was taken ill two weeks ago. lust when he appeared- to be making satisfactory progress after a serious operation he collapsed and passed away suddenly. Mr Wells was born in Milton and was for . some time connected with the youth Canterbury Farmers' Co-operat-iVe Association at Dunedin. He was also well-known in the trotting world, and among the horses he owned was Rollo, a well-known New Zealand Trotting , Cup , candidate. The late Mr Wells married Miss Bery] Scandrett, • of Masterton, about 12 months ago. The funeral was held yesterday. On account of the death of Mr Wells, matches' set down. for the Hastings Golf Club's links on Saturday were cancelled.
