Mr A. V, O'Brien, of Wellington, has been appointed judge to the .Takapuna Joekey Club for the present season, Mr Charles John Wilson, of Christchurch, has been elected president of the New Zealand Woolbrokers' Association, Mr Trevor Prosser, Government Life Assurancel representative, of 708 Victoria street, Hastings, accompanied by Mrs is at present on a visit to Aucklana, Dr. W. S. Wallis, of Rotorua, who is now convalescent after his xecent serious illness, is making steady progress toward xecovery. Tbe .doctor is an inmate of a private hospital in Auckland. Mr Alan Hosking, who has been 011 the staff of the Napier Central School since the beginning of the year, paid a short visit to his home in Ormondville before leaving for Motea school, where he has been appointed solecharge relieving teacberu Mr W. A. Flavell, general manager of the Westport Coal Company, Dunedin, recently completed 50 years of service with that company. He received a presentation from the staff to mark the occasion. Mr Flavell was for years on the company 's property on the West Coast and later become manager of the Wellington branch, Mr Wyvern Wilson, senior Stipendiary Magistrate in Auckland since 1933, is to retire in November after serving for 26 years on Jthe Bench. Mr Wilson, who has' practised at Hawera, Pahiatua and Auckland, was appointed Magistrate in 1911, at the age of 34, serving first at Nelson, then on the West Coast, and at Wanganui, ' Christchurch and Hamilton. Flight-Lieutenant H. B. Burrell has relinguished Tiis appointment as ttymg instructor at Wigram Aerodroine and officer commanding No. 2 Bomber EeconnaissanCe Flight, and is posted .to Aif Headquarters, Wellington, as staff officer to the Superintendent of lieservest and Adjuthnt of No. 2 Bomber Squadron, according to U notice in the Gazette, Mr. J. L. Hill, a member of the typographifcal staff of th© Herald-Tribun^, who lujs accepted a siniilar position on the staff of the Poverty Bay Herald, Gisborne, was met by his fellowmembers of the Herald-Tribuue staff this morning and made tlio reeipient of a small presentation as a token of the esteem in which he is held and of the goodfellowship that exists between him and his feilow-worke-r'u On bebalf of the staff Mr W. A. Whitlock, manag-ing-director, made the presentation and extended to Mr. Hill the bcsb wishes l'of a liappy and prosperous l'utnre.
