A vote of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr. W. J. Pallot was passed by members of the Napier Chamber of Commerce at their monthly ineoiing last evening. Mr. John Ryall has resigned the postmastership at Barrytown, Westland, after holding the position for the past 40 years. Hia successor will tio Mr.' Denis liyall, his brother. Forty years' service in oue distriet is an unusuai record for a country postmaster. Dr. I. C. Macintyre, medical director of the tuberculosis' institutions of tlie North Canterbury Hospital Board, has been granted leave of absence by theboard to enable him to visit Britain and European centres, one of the main objects of his trip being to study tlia surgical treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. Dr. Macintyre will be absent from New Zealand for eight or nine months. Mr. Gilbert Arcliey, director of the Auckland War Memorial Museum, who is at present visiting overseas iuuseums under a Carnegie Oorporation grantt will return to Auckland by the Monterey on January 23 after spendiiig a fortnight at Honolulu with Dr. Peter Buck, director of the Bishop Museum. Mr. Archey is at present in New York, having recently completed a tour of English and Conjfinental museums.
