A CHINESE VICTORY

Reckless Japanese Attack at Shanghai GUERILLA TACTICS IN NORTH (Keceived 23, 11.50 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Sept. 22. The Chinese claim to have won a victory on the Shanghai front. The Japanese made a reckless attack in the Lotien-Liuhang sector and were mowed down by machine-gun iire. A Peiping message states that the Japanese admit that Chinese guerilla forces operating behind the Japanese lines in North China are troublesome. A Tokio message claims that the Japanese, attacking both wings of the Chinese in the Hopei area, reached the Tatsing river six north of Paotingfu, which airmen bombed. They are now within eight miles of Tsangcliow, which 60,000 Chinese are defending. The Japanese have captured Pingtichuan, on the Suiyuan railway.
