SUPPLIES OF WHITEBAIT
Better Catches Reported PRICE REMAINS HIGH After a fairly long spell of poor catches an encouraging supply of whitebait has come on to the mafket in Hastings during the last few days. The price is still- high, however, 5/- a lb. being the price ruling at present. Following a consignment of 401bs. which was.sent away from Hastings to Wanganui and sold there at 7/6 a lb. another large consignment was sent south. from Hastings by rail yesterday. lb is this demand from outside centres, coupled with^ the short supply localiy this season, that is keeping the price up, although at one stage it was ciown to ,3/- a lb. for a short period following a particularly good catch. The present spell, of fine weather is re* sulting in better catches and, no doubt, if there is no further rain to discolour the rivers the price will fall before tong.
