ARGENTINE IN LAMB MARKET
"War" with N.Z. Product Under the headings, "To Fight for Lamb Market— -Kecord Consignment of Sheep," the Buenos Aires Herald recently published a news item of signiflcant interest to New Zealand and New Zealand sheep-farmers. It records .the importation of pedigree sheep for the expressed purpose of competing with New Zealhnd lamb on the English iparket. "To wage a war with New Zealand lamb, one of the largest consignments of pedigree sheep ever to be imported into Argentina arrived on board the steamship Millais," the artiele states. "A high oflicial of Sucesion Jiilio Pueyrredon, the consiguees, told a Herald representativo that he believed that never beforo ha-d so many ewes been imported in ; one consignment. Tho pedigree sheep, ho said, would be used to raise the standard of Argentine mntton. The object was to compete with New Zealand lamb and mutton on the London market. "The consignment consisted of 121 Southdorvn ewes, five Southdown rams,, 33 Hampshire ewes and five Hampshire rams. The animals were pufchased by Mr. Albert Gittins, who arrived With tho skeen on the Millais."
