N.S.W. Budgets for Surplus higher revenue expected (Beceived 22, 8.45 am..). SYDNEY, Sept. 21. DeliVering his sixtk sUCcessive Budget in the Legislative Assembly tonight tke Primier of New Soutk Wales, Mr B# S. B# Stevens, . stated that the Government finisked the year with a surplus of £74,319, Wkick coHtrasted Witk tke deficit of £1,694,827 ii) 1935-36. He bndge.ted for a surplus of £0398 for the currOnt year# Mr Stevens announced tkat, as fron) December 1, and possibly earlier, wages and Speeial income-taxes Would be roduced by £2,700,000, covering tke flill year, and "tkat at least 300,000 wage-
eamers at present paying wages-tax would be exempted under tke new plan, ineluding tkose earning less tkan £3 a week, tkose witk two children earn ing less than £5 a week, and those witk four children earning lesS tkan £6 a week. EeducitOns on a gradUated scale will apply to tke wages-tax paid by persons witk kigker incomes. Tke Premier pointed out tkat ke was working quietly towafds tke abolition of tke wages and special ineome-tax. He estimated tkat Government revenue for 1937-38 would be sligktly kigker tkan last year, amounting to £27,376,668. There would bo no new taxation.
