ANNUAL PARADE

Hawke's Bay Jockey Club Even greater interest than usual is being taken in the Annual Horse Parade to be held at the Hastings racecourse on Thursday, September 30, under the auspices of the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club. This is largely due to the facts that tlio two-year-olds iu this district are the most promising seen here for many years and that the Duko of Gloucester Cup, for amateur riders, is this season to be run for at the Hawke's Bay spring meeting. The committee have drawn up Ihe programtno i'or the parade, and a most entertaining afternoon's sport it will provide for the pubiic who will be invited tg attend with the gates thrown open in welcome to all.

The two-year-old events will be run over half a mi'le. and in all probability, as last yoar, in two divisions or perhaps three. These events will be got off first so as to give the babies a chanee to "look round" after they have done their act. The niaiden gallops will also be over a half-mile course and in two divisions, ono confined to horses that have hot raced and ihe other to those who have already made their debut in pubiic. Another event will be the Amateur Irial over a distance yet to be deterniined, but probably over six and a-half or nine furlongs, the desires of the trainors with horses for the Duke of Gloucester Cup having to be consulted. Amateur riders have but few clinnccs of competitive riding and will welcome this opportunity, especially the "lilywhites" who may be looking forward

to riding their first raee on October 9. The "haeks" will be run over furlongs and probably in two heats, as a big nomination is expected. The "open" division will conclude the day.'s sport and will be started from the 6^-furlong barrier. Nominatiops for all events will closo at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28, the day following the general entry for the Hawke's Bay spring meeting.
