Toc H Eptcrtains at Hospital. Patients and staff of the Waipukurau District Hospital thoroughly enjoyed a visit on Monday evening of a party of entertainers, organised by the local branch of Toc H. Choruses by tho eboir, items by the ''Toc H quartet (Messrs C. Wadman, snr., J. Hames, 0. Wadman, ."jnr., and R. McD. fScott), a duet by Messrs J, Hames and C. Wadman snr., and songs by the prograramc. Miss M. King acted as accompanist. Kupper was served by the staff, while the Matron, Miss H. M. Turnbull, thanked the entertainers. Shortage of Housea in Waipukurau. Nothing further has been heard in Waipukurau as to what action the Government intends to take to alleviate the housing shortage inr that district whieh was revealed by the recent housing survey. Buildings tbat were never intended for human habitation have perforce to be regarded as "Lorne, sweet home" by soine unfor--tunate families in the meantime. Baths and other conveniences are lacking in a number of cas.es, and thero is sonie overcrowding. Although these premisea do not compiy with Health Department regulations, the conditions will have to be endured until further aceommodation is available. Dog Tax Gollections. Tenders are being called by the Patangata County Council for the rigjit to collect the dog tax in the county for the year commencing January 1, 1938. Pull particulars are available at tlio County Office, Waipukurau Honouxs Board. In inemory of theix son. Ross, who died earlier in the year, Mr uud Mrs M. G. Mackay, of Te Maire Btation, Wairoa, have donated au honours board to the Wairoa District Higli School. Mr E. C. Boyes, in acknowledging tho gift, states that no more iitting memorial could be set up. Mr Mackay is also giving annually the dux medal for Forrn II. Dental Olinic, The Wairoa dental clinic, which has been closed for some time, is to be reopened this week. Nurse B. Kinsella will be in charge. Waipawa Tennis Club. The annual meeting of the tennis seotion oi the Waipawa Sports Club held recently not having been in conformity with the rules, a further meeting was held last evening when the president, Dr. T. Seton Norris, presided qver a good attendance. The election of officers resulted as foliows : — • President, Dr. T. Seton Norris; secretary, Mr 13. O. Gamby; groundsman, Mr J, B. Gould; ladder secretary, Mr T. Hercock; eommittee, Messrs Y. Douglas, N, MacPherson, G. Knoblooh and Misses A, d'Emden. A, Gorskie and J. McQuilkan. Mr G. Kuoblocli was appointed junior members' representative on the copimittee. The following tournament eommittee was re-appointed : Messrs D. H. Edwards, Trevor Black, E. W. Jull and F, M. Tickner.
