GAS COMPANY OFFICIALS RETIRE

Mr. G. S. V. Wenley and Mr, L. Pickering The retirement of the chairman of directors, Mr G. S. V. Wenley, and the general manager, Mr L. Pickering, was announced at a meeting of the hoard of direetors at the Napier Gas Co., Ltd., yesterday. Mr Pickering, wliose retirement takes effect as from the end of this month, has been in the service of the company for 31 years. The senior director, Mr A. D. Brown, of Eskdale, was appointed chairman in place of Mr Wenley, who announced six months ago that it was his intention to retixe from the position. No appointment as manager has yet been made. Well known as the president for the past 17 years of the Napier Thirty Thousand Club( Mr Pickering has been a rcsidcnt of Napier for 35 years, and is a member of several local organisations, inciuding the Napier Rotary Club and the Napier Chamber of Commerce, as well as being president of the Hawke's Bay Employors' Associatiou. Mr Pickering has been appointed consulting engineer to the company and has also been appointed to represent the company on the Gas Companies' Association of New Zealand, on the executive "of which he has been an activo member tor 13 years. Mr Pickering intends to maintain an active interest in tko industry as a kobby before. retiring into private life. 3Ie will continue to reside in Napier.
