STEADY MARKET
Store Cattle Sale at Waipukurau LATE RATES RULE A steady market ruled for the large yarding of store cattle at Waipukurau to-day. Several well-bred station lines of steers and young bullocks came forward, and late rates were fully maintained. There was a good inquiry for all young cattle which had wintered reasonably well. Well-grown young bullocks in from Tikokino were passed at £10 4/-. Other bullocks in lighter condition realised £9 17/6. Good 2-year-old steers realised £8 18/-, and small-grown lines were low as £7 10/-, being slow to trade at this figure. Yearling steers, well bred, brought £6 17/-, and small-grown entries made £5 -10/-. Yearling htifers realised £4 10/-. Fat cattle were in very short supply, with very few attractive quality pens. Tho best cows made to £10 15/-, and light pens made from £7 10/- to £8 10/-. Small-grown heifers realised to £9 10/-. The quality of the yarding was well below that of Stortford Lodge last week. A rather easier market ruled for fat sheep, of whiqh there was a good yarding. Some good quality lines were included in the offering. The best heavy ewes realised 33/2, but light pens were as low as 24/-. Shorn ewes made 21/9. Wethers were in short supply. The best, whieh were) particularly good quality, made to 38/-. Realisations were as under. — FAT CATTLE. In from Ongaonga, an entry of inedium-framed Aberdeen Angus cows, prime finish, brought £10 2/6. In from Wallingford, two smallgrown Aberdeen Angus heifers, .prime finish, sold at £9 10/-. On account of Mr J. A. Swinburne, Pourerere, an entry of six Aberdeen Angus-Hercford cross small-faced cows, empty after being on xoad for a few days and in medium order, brought £8 5/-. / - On account of the same ven.dor, a further entry of similar-bred coww, showing much better finish than the previous pen, realised £10 15/-. On account of Motere Station, eight clean-bred Aberdeen Angus cows, i medium-framed and in good killable order, sold at £9 12/-. In from Pourerere, an entry of Aberdeen Angus cross cows^ia light order were traded at £7 10/-. In from Motere, a further entry of Aberdeen Angus cows, smaller-framed and lacking the finish of the previous entry off this property, made £7 18/-. Two small-grown dehorned Hereford heifer3, prime finish. a good quality entry, sold at £9 8/-.* An entry of mixed-bred three-year steers, small grown and in light order, made to £9 10/-s STORE CATTLE. An entry of 76 fairly-grown Aberdeen Angus-Hereford cross bullocks, some of which were on the small side and in light to medium store order3 brought £9 17/6. On account of Mr J. A. Swinburne, Pourerere, 36 well-bred Aberdeen Angus yearling steers, fairly grown and in hardy order, giving promise of developing into good cattle, brought £6 17/-, On account of "the same vendor, 28 well-bred and well-grown three-year-old Aberdeen Angus steers, in good order, a useful line for developing into good chillers, met the market at £8 18/-. - From the same source a further . entry of two-year similar-bred steers, small grown and not in the same order as the previous line, sold at £7 12/-. In from Argyll, 115 fairly-grown twoyear Aberdeen Angus steers, in" light condition, brought £8 12/-. Down from the Blackburn country, 55 Aberdeen Angus-Bereford cross two-year steers, small grown and in light condition, did not attraet to pass at £7 10/-. In from Porangahau, a line of smfil) grown Aberdeen Angus yearling steers, in light order, were slow to trade ai £5 16/-. In from Long Range, a line of yenjr ling- Aberdeen Angus heifers, well coated and in good order, although a pcrcentage were on the ' small side, brought £4.10/-. In from Tikokino, 40 fairly-grown Aberdeen Angus-Hereford cross bullocks, in good store condition, were passed at £10 4/-. These young bullocks had been well wintered and were ready for the finisbing paddocks. A line of 20 small-grown liorned Hereford two-year .steers, in light condition, were passed at £7 15/-.
STORE SHEEP. A line of 149 quite well grown wolly Romney wether hoggets, in good, bright, healthy order und in good sitore condition, wero sold at 27/6. A line of 144 nieely-grown Romney wether hoggets, shorn as lambs and in splendid store- condition, very bright and healthy, sold at 24/10. On account of Mr. T. E. Wlielch, Lake Station, 118 well-grown Romney wether hoggets, shorn as laoibs, in splendid order and very healthy, sold at 24/-. On account of the same veudor, 145 woolly Roinney wether hoggets, medium grown and well done, wero sold at 27/-. A line of small-grown blackface hoggets, in forward order, realised 22/3. In from Takapau, 40 mixed sex woolly hoggets, quite well grown and hardy, brought 30/9. A small entry of 6-th. ewes, in particularly good order, with very sturdy lambs by Southdown rarns at foot, were passed at 23/-. A pen of 11 ewes, in good order with a similar number of forward lambs at foot, made 21/10, al] eounted. From Wanstead, 56 medium grown fat and forward Down cross hoggets, in splendid order, sold at 26/5. An entry ot 14 prime heavy ewes, well woolled. were passed at 30/6. A pen of prime quality inaiden ewes in good orderj were passed at 32/-. An entry of good medium ewes, carrying) a good ,skin, made 29/-. An entry of 35 ewes, medium to
heavy, the tops being very well finished, wero' passeu at 31 /6. A small entrv oi prime heavy wethers sold at 38/A pen of shorn ewes, well finished, sold at 21/-. An entry of shorn wethers, some smal] framed and unfinished, were passed at 26/6. A pen of medium-framed ewes, in killable condition, made 26/-.
