ATTEMPTED GAOL-BREAK

Three Dead, Many Injured KNIVES AND CLUBS USED (Received 2l, 8.45 a.m ) NEW YORK, Sept. 20. A message from Olsom, California, s&ys that seven convicts made an unsuccessful attempt to escape from the penitentiary there to-day. A guard and two convicts wero killed, the warden, Mr. Clarence Larkin, was critieally injured — he is not expected to live — and at least seven others were hurt. Savage fighting with knives and clubs took place in the prison yard, when the warden was stabbed in the abdomen, The convicts were overpowered by a squad of the Reserve guards.
