These are One o£ the three canoes which collected the "Tin Can Mail" from the U.S.S. Company's liner Maunganui during the recent cruise of the Pacific Islands. The Manganui carried 15,000 letters for Niuafou (Tin Can Island), packed in six tins similar to No. 5 tin, seen in front of the native paddling in the stern of the canoe. Another tin has been picked up and is in front of-the-bow paddler.
