Rates of Interest
Sir,— Government speakers in the H.ouse have. been very emphatic in their assertions that the Labour Government 's maia concern is tt keep down the rate of interest. Contemporaneously with these statements being broadcast throughout the Dominion one of the Sta,te 's own lend- ■ ing departments has given the lie to the exponents of its policy by announcing that its rate of interest has now been increased i per cent.. per annum. Contrary to what its speakers from Parliament would have us believe, the fact remains that the State is the first large lending institution in the Dominion to put up the rates of interest. One wo.nders how much more liapdoodle the .Government is going to put "over the air" from the House of Parliament. — Yours, etc., BORROWER, Napier, Sept. 18, 1937,
