CHINESE AERIAL RAIDS ON THE SHANGHAI FRONT
Buildings Ablaze; Warship Hit (Eeceived 20, 8.46 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Sept. 19. Shanghai reports say that torrential rain is holding up major activities. The Japanese have resisted all counter-attacks by the Chinese, and are strengthening their positions between the International Sefctlement and the Chinese quarter. Chinese aeroplanes eight times last evening raided the Japanese areas. There were many conflagrations. The bombs also set fire to several buildings in the International Settlement, including Levers' soap factory -and an eggpacking plant which is owned by a British concern. The Chinese claim a direct hit on a Japanese warship. According to a Nanking message, the Government has ordered the Chinese Ambassador to the United States to express dissatisfac- * tion concerning President Eoosevelt 's arms embargo to China,! |_^
