VIOLENT GALES

Eastern Australia Swept (Eeceived 20, 8.45 a m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 19. The eastern States of Australia were swept by a violent gale yesterday. Tbe gale whipped up clouds of dust, marring the Eoyal Show at Adelaide, razing marques and also spoiling sporting fixtures at Melbourne. The xaces at Mentono were obscured by a pall of red dust. Similar conditions provailed at Sydney, where sailing raees were spoiled and many boats overturned in the harbour, but the crews were rescued. Considerable damage was done to property and orchards in the three States of Victoria, New South "YVales and Queensland.
