FANCY-DRESS BALL
Waipukurau School Children Hold Annual Dance AN INSPIRING PICTURE
From Our Own Correspondent.
WAIPUKURAU, Last Night. No more inspiring and beautiful picture could be desired than the sight of the hundreds of happy children who attended the annual fancy dress ball of the Waipukurau District High School. The hall was decorated with clusters of royal blue and white balloons, the tall columns supporting the dress-circle being entwined with white heather, which had been sent up from Picton. The front of the stage was festooned with pink and white camellias. In the supper-room the tables were decorated in royal blue and white (the school colours), bowls of blue hyacinths and primroses being used to give the effect. Supper of fruit salad, jellies and other dainties dear to the child's heart was served. The organisation of the ball was the work of Mr V. Parsons, the headmaster, and his staff, assisted by the school committee, of which Mr C. F. Haycock is the chairman, members of the Home and School League and parents. The ball opened with the grand march, led by the infants, followed by the intermediate and senior pupils. The marches were an inspiring sight, with hundreds of children in the gayest of costumes and with the happiest of faces marching in excellent time, Following the grand march, several singing dances were given by the infants, followed by special dancing by Forms 1 and 2 and the high school pupils. the children giving a really splendid exhibition, which indicated much time and patience put into the training by the teachers.
