At tbe monthly meeting of tbe Pukahu Wpmen'is Institute Mrs L. W, Golfllincb presi.ded. Tbe meeting opene(l witlx tbe siuging "Comrades and Friends," i'ollowed by tbe Women's Creed, tbe president reading an extraqt from. a magazino on tbe meaning of tbe words aud sentences contained in tbe creed, wbicb, with its beautiful words, probed deeply into tbe daily life of everyone and meant sp mucb. This nrticle proved to be inspiring and edip cationai and was received with mucb interest. Tbe result of tbe stall held at tbe Havelock Nortb flower skow was givep and proved to be rno'St satisfactory, tbe attendants being thanked for their belp. Remite to be presented at tbe feduratjon meeting at Greenmeadows ou Octobor 5 wero discussed and tbe delogates appointed to attend were tbe president and Mrs Lang. It was decided to extend tbe closiixg date for gifts for tbe lepers on Makogai Island until tbe October meeting, wbicb would be beld ou October 26 as the usual meeting day came on tbe Spring Sbow day. An announcement was made that tbe layetfes for tbe federation competition should be dispatched to Miss Neilson_ Napier, by September 30. Tbe revised scbedule for tbe flower sbow in November wus read and members invited to make copies and .distribute tbem. Mrs C. Ritcbie continued tbe "(iolden Tliread" talk on famous New Zealand persons, giving a most interesting aecount of tbe life and works of Jessio McKay. Later Mrs Livingstone read two beautiful poems by tbe autliore'ss, "Tbe burial of Sir G. M«Kenzic," Dunediu, being cspeeially beautiful tliougli sad. Tbe speaker istressefl tbo need of cliiJclren being taugbt self'Control from early babybgod days, the flrst steps in this lesson being tbe reguiatirig of feed tijpes every four bours, as iaid down by tbe Plunkst Sqciety aud faitbfully carried out by most young motbers. Many userul and sensible hints on tbe proper rearing of children were given and mucb appreciated by tlie young motbers present. At tbe conclusion of ber address^ Mrs Ohapman Taylor was accorded a hoartj vote of thanks. The compctitions for the day, kindly judged by Mrs Cliapinan Taylor and Mrs Livingstone, resulted as follows: — Shortbread, Mrs Little 1, Mrs Oummins 2, Mrs Wilks 3; best coathangcr, Mrs Wilks 1, Miss Lang 2, Mrs Lean 3; best bloom, Miss Orcliard 1. Mrs Wakefield 2, Miss Cuinmins 3. It was announced that the eompetitions for October woubl be the best bouqtiet and a nut and raisin loaf. The eiuging of the National Antbmn {oncluded an interesting meeting.
