ALL BLACKS' RECORD

53 YEARS OF RUGBY

LIST OE WINS AND LOSSES

New Zealand's -record in Rugby test matches is a magnificent • one, and the following table shows that of 123 games only 25 have been lost. Tliis is over a period of more than 50 years, and during that time there have been some remarkably long spells during which. the Dominion was not beaten on the Rugby field. From „half way through the Australian tour of 1897 until the match against • .Wales in 1905 New Zealand played 16 matches. At the beginning of the last season the New South Wales side held New Zealand to a draw, but the other 15 matches in that period were won, mostly with big scores. Another series of 13 test matches was played by New Zealand between 1907 and 1910 without a loss, although two of the games were drawn. The following table shows New Zealand's record in test matches since tht. first was played against New South Wales 53 years ago: —

Britain and the Davis Cup. , The president of the English Lawn Tennis Association, Sir Samuel Hoare, announced recently that the association intends consulting active players to find the best means of recapturing the Davis Cup and the Wightman Cup from , America. He said he felt t sure that.if the association kept in close •contaci with the players they would regain the trophies., The association had done qverything it could keep Perry amateur, and the ruruour of a disagreement with the former world champioh was without foundation. •

Praise for Donnelly. It is pleasing to think that we may see quite a lot in this country in years 'to come of M. P. Donnelly, the young | left-hander who made such a fine century for the New Zealanders against Surrey at the Oval, says an English writer. At school this fine, well-bal-anced, all-round athlete was captain at several games, playing tennis and Rugby football nearly as well as he plays cricket. He is also a good swim•mer. He has only just left school, and when he goc-s up to the university will probably come to England as a^lhodes Scholar. I am sure they will welcome him at Oxford.
