TRADE IMPROVEMENT

(British Official Wireless.)

Australia Leads the Way

# (Eeceived 18, 8.45 a.m.) EUGBY, Sept. 16. A report issued by tho Imperial Ecouomic Committee shows that the position of trade throughout the world is continually improving. There were iucreases in production in all world exporting countries during tho season 1936 to 1937. Tho ehief increase was in Australia, where production rose by 40.000, OOOlbs. South Africa showed an increase of 35, 000, OOOlbs. aud Argentina 19,000,000 Ibs. Prices continued to rise despite this advauce in production, but an intensified demand from all consuming countries tended to stabilise prices and prevcnt wide fluctuations. Stocks in Australia at June 30 totalled 14, 000, OOOlbs., as against 23, 000, OOOlbs. a year earlier. In New Zealand they wero 11,000.000 Ibs., against 17, 000, OOOlbs. Of these stocks the greater part was sold during July and August. Thero was every indication that when tho South American eeason closed at the end of September unsolcl stocks, particularly of codrse wools, would be very small.
