PRETTY WEDDING TAKES PLACE AT WAIPAWA
GURRAN— HOPKINS St. Peter's Church, Waipawa, was the scene on Tuesday evening, of a very pretty .wedding, when Mildred Grace, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Frederick Hopkins, Waipawa, was married to Mr George Gurran, of Napier. The service was choral, the congregation singing the Bymn "The Voice That Breathed O'er Eden." The Rev. W. T. Drake performed the ceremony, while Mrs Drake presided at the organ. During the sigp- • ing of the register, Mrs G. Knobloch rendered the solo. "Here in the Quiet Hills." An especially beautiful feature of the service was the Coronation Prayer Hook, used in the ceremony by the minister, and, afterwards presented by him to the bride. The bride, who entered the churcjbi escorted by her father, made a charming ,picture in her wedding gown of ivory needlerun lace worn over g/leaming satin beaute. The collar gave a classical finish to the heart-shaped neck line from where the ruehing began, and finished at the knees, -where the skirt fell in soft folds,, forming a long oval train./fhe sleeves were full to the elbows and then fitted to the wrists. Her beautifully embroidered tulle veil, lent by Mrs A. Gurran, was mounted on a foundation of misty tulle and j worn over the face. The little silver j lattice cap, worn on the hack of the I head, held the veil in place. She wore ] silver kid shoes and carried a shower | bouquet of deep ci'eam freezias, hyacinths and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaids, Miss Jean McQuilkan and Miss Itoma King, were frocked alike in dainty gowns of peach-blossom pink. The bodices of lacquered satin were tuoked and triinined with selfcovered buttons. The unusual fiill puffed sleeves were each trimmed with a tiny posy tied with silver bows. The full stiffened net skirts candyked on to the bodices were trimmed with hand-made organdie fiowers in two shades of pink, each tied with a silver bow, Silver Juliet caps and sandals enhanced the beauty of their f rocks, while dainty bouquets in varying shades of pink completed their dainty ensembles. Little Jill Walker, aged 3, made a sweet little flower girl, in a frock of white organdie sprigged with pink rosebuds, made in Victorian style, the frock was frilled to the fioor. White
shoes and a tiny Juliet cap on her blonde curls completed her dainty toilette. She carried a posy of sweet spring fiowers. The duties of best man were caiTied out by Mr G. Harvey, while Mr B. Hopkins, brotber of the bride, acted as groomsman, Messrs L. Liddeli and W. Adams were ushers. Subsequent to the ceremony, a reception was held in the Municipal Concert Hall, wliere a large number of guests were received' by Mis Hopkins wearing a model gown of golden-ochre needlerun lace, panne velvet coat and hat to tono, and carrying a bouquet of hyacinths and spring fiowers. Mrs h\ llennett, who represented the biidegroom's niobher, wore a smart-ly-cut plain and figured navy enseinble with hat and shoes to tone.~ Toasts^ appropriate to the occasion were duly lionoured and the evening concluded with a delightful dance, Mr W. Miller acting as M.C. The beautifully decorated two-tier wedding cake was made and presented by Mrs F. llennett. The bride received a liost of useful and valuable gifts, tokens of her widespread popularity. Mr and Mrs Gurran left later on a tour of the North Island, the bride travelling in a Lido-blue suit with white and blue spotted organdie blouse, hat and shoes and bag to tone, the enseinble being completed with a set o,f furs. Included in the gpests were: — Mrs Banks, aunt of the bride, rich embossed black georgette and lace frock with silver and blue trimming and black panne velvet, coat. Miss Adams, aunt of the bride, black tailored*JOStume and Coronation toque of jade-green silk straw. , Mrs H. P.ratley, aunt of the bride, model frock of black eilk cloque and panne velvet coat. Mrs W. Adams, aunt Uf the bride, frock of brown and fawn tonings with hat and tbree-quarter coat to match. Mrs J- Walker, jnr-, the bride's nearest friend, beautiful frock of white silk net over pink and white floral taffeta, E^nd wearing a white fur coat.
