FOXTON TO-MORROW

"The Barb.'5)

A Dozen Horses from Local Stables FIELDS REVIEWED

(By

The spring meeting, one day, of the Foxton Jockey Club will take place to-n.orrow on the Foxton racecourse, when fair fields will contest the various events, although perhaps the acceptances are not up to expectations. Local stables will be represented by Joe Louis, Top Hat, Helios, Hunting Spy, Colleen Gain, Le Torquet, Werohia, Passion Fruit, Soho, Tommy Atkins, Iloyal Minstrel, Slippery -(very doubtiul) and Joviality. The following is a brief review of the runners : — 12.0: TRIAL STAKES Six Furlongs. There is a big field but very little form is visible. Joe Louis ran disap•pointingly at Wanganui, but with B. H. Morris in the saddle to-morrow, may show an improvemeiit. The publio off the course may not take a great deal of interest in this particular event as maiden races in the early spring are apt to cause the burning of iingers of speeulators. The favourite may come from GAY HUNTING, JOE LOUIS and GAY itUBY". 12.40, PAIKAI HU11DLES Itound Score was fair on th3 Hat, but has 110 racing experience over tlio hurdles. Even Money this time may be dangerous. Aiguille is another that may have improved with recent racing. Otaki will find favour with niachine patrons. Top Hat is fancied as also is the novice, Patagonia. Helios has won one race in his career and tliat t\Vo years ago on the same course but that will not iuiluence anyone. They are not a very brilliant lot oi liurdlers with most money perhaps invested on. the chances of TOP HAT, OTAKI and EVEN MONEY. 1.20, MOTUTI HAC'K HANDICAP Golden Chest is useful, but at 9.0 will need to do a little better tlian ever previously. Colleen Gain in her final gallop before going away was very easily defeated by Taro over five furlongs in average hack time. This tnare hardly appears as fit and well as a month or two back. A good hack is Rotoina, while Lady Siegfried, another Hawke's Bay get, may find three-quarters of a mile hardly far enough. Gladium is on liis home tracli so will appeal for that reason alone, as niany cannot handle the sandy formation at Foxton. Gay Molly was an average two-year-oid performer last season. Sunny Blonde is not to be lost siglit of, while Le Torquet has a fair cliance among the lightiveights. There should be fair coinpetition for favouritsin between GLADIUM, ROTOMA, and SUNNY BLONDE. 2.0, CARNARVON GOLD CUP. For oue that appeared on the. dowu grade last autumn Werohia, on tho 8.11 mark, certainly has his shaxe oi weight, but oue thing in his favour is that he is in fine tettle for so early in the season. Gold Mission has racing condition on her side. Sunee's form is not easy to follow, but on track work would be very hard to disposo of. Alby when fit and well goes a good ten furlongs, but unfortunately is unsound. When Old Surrey won the seven furlong open hanclicap at Riccarton the last day he came from well back to finish strongly, suggestive of being at home over middle distances. Passion Fruit went a fair once round before going away and a win for him would occasion no surprise. Soho is in need of a race. Myriam may do best of the others. Those likely to carry most monetary support are OLD SURREY, MIR1AM and GOLD MISSION.

2.45: FOXTON HACK STEEPLECHASE By winning at Wanganui Ruenzori looks the potential favourite in this event, while the runner-up to him that day, Acron, will also find favour with speculators. Otaki, if started, will perhaps cause more betting on him than the remainuer of the field, of which the Hastings trained Tommy Atkins, is not in the least fancied. The betting order may read RUENZORI, ACRON, and TIGER BILL. 3.30: AWAHOU HACK HANDICAP. Spender ran a fair race recently at New Plymouth and is one of this field that has won ovei; a middle distance. Warehi won at Wanganui. Royal Minstrel has won oniy up to six furlongs, but the manner in wiiioh he went once round before going away suggests him going over a distance successfully. Ghat is a possibility, vvliilo outside Galteemoro's double win on the one day last autumn he lias but little to lccommend. The others havo yet to earn a winning bracket. Most monetary support may be beliind WAREHI, SPENDER and CHAT. 4.15, ROBINSON HANDICAP. Pukeko is solid and lionest. Jubileo Song is a recent winner on similar going as to-morrow will be. Omarere has not won since returiiing from Australia wkere he was held in high estceni as a two-year-old, but was not able to fuifil expectations. Lord Moutoa has the habit of popping up when unexpected. Reipar may prove tho best of tho other threo. Thiee that- may appeal aro JlJBILEFi SONG, PUKEKO and LORD MOUTOA. 4.55, MOUTOA li.iCK IIANDICAP. Joviality won a double at Wanganui and now will all his 9.11, will be hard again, that is, if in the sanio gallojiing mood. Golden Olaest goes a mern iivo as also does Colleen Gain w a -n herself. Racecall, Aria and j-e To; .j uet , have tho hest i'onu of Ihe othtn,

covery may be expected by speculators from GOLDEN OHEST, JOVIALITY and ARIA. Since the Foxton Racing Clab so foolishly — in the opinion of many — gave up Anniversary Day as the date of its annual meeting, it has conducted two one-day meetings and this has always not been a success'. Tho fields for to-morrow 's programme of events are rather mixed, good and moderate a-Iternating. Not a great deal other than local interest will be focussed upon the gathering, for the stakes ar» by no. means big and the good horses are conspieuous by their absence. The following horses should show up to-morrow : — TRIAL STAKES.— Joe Louis, Gay Hunting, Royal Romance. PAIAKI HURDLES— Top Hat, Aiguille, Even Money. MOTUHT HACK— Race Call, Hunting Spy, Rotoma. CARNAVON GOLD CUP.— Old Surrey Soho, Passion Fruit. HACK STEEPLES.— Acron, Tiger Bill, Ruenzori. AWAHOU HACK.— Chat, Royal Minstrel, Brilliancy. ROBINSON HANDICAP.— Reipar, Lord Moutoa, Jubilee Song. MOUTOA. HACK.— Race Call, Colleen Gain, Joviality.
