Avondale Cup

-From "Early Birch")

TO-MORROW'S EVENT Review oi Form Shown by Performers FIELDS DISCUSSED

(Special-

AUCKLAND, This Day. With the conditions overhead favourahle to-morrow, the Avondale Jockey Club will he in for a highlysuccessful fixture to-morrow and on Monday, for with all that is required in the way of fields, both in quality and certainly in numhers, the programme is such as to draw racegoers from all over the province. The going promises to he good for this time of the year. Betting will he conductcd under the old 75-25 per cent. system. There is little radical cliange m the position as regards the probable outeome of the ehief handieap raee, the Avondale Cup, which has already been gone into rather fully. Ihe winner should come from this sextet: Catalogue, Fersen, Seotland, Kiltowyn, Cerne Abbas and Gay Rebel, with Boomerang and Valmint likely surpriso , paekete. Cerne Abbas has all the eredentials as well as a decided pull in the weights and she may end np the totalisator favourite, with Gatalogue next best favoured. Another eomplex problem is oiferedby the sprint, the Flying Handieap. If one could be sure of Triune getting away well — he is very erratie at the barrier nowaduys — he would be given immediate preference over any of the others, and his chaixce still iooks good seeing that he will be bracketed with the three-yeax-old filly Airam, who is smart.' Tosh has been working brilliantly at Te Hapa and he is on the up grade, judged on his last autumn form. Jonatlian is improving also and as he went a good race at Ellerslie last month and his trainer thinks he will come back he may be expected to run a fine race. Interest will also be taken in tbe reappearance of Stretto in this sprint, for she has been working very well indeed. Maori Song represents winning form, and he is still in capital order. With wet weather the stable double, Enge and Maori Song, may pull off both big handicaps to-morrow. Merial is expected to show improvement, while Gay Seton and Yalamito are in excellent shape. Interest will be attaehed to the doings of the three-year-olds Airam, Bachelor King and lioyal Bachelor, for with Airam they are also in the Guineas on Monday. The Triune-Airam bracket and Maori Song may count most friends tomorrow, Protector pavoured. There ure certain to be niany withdrUAvals from the two-year-old classic, Ihe Avondale Stakes, ivhich is a lialfmiie adair started on the bend, with a tvvo and a-quurter furloug straight rau up the home stretch. Frotcctor has the benclit of a race at Wanganui and his Beginning abiiity will stand to him in this event. Diana Tetrix and Kuling Lady have also had a race, but none of the others has. Nothing has been heard of Te Ilero of late and he will doubtless be missing. Little Dorrit, Nordie Song, Namara, Aryakur^ Eastern HeiT, Fidelis, Miss Brierly and Empire Action all have paee, but it remains to be seen how they will fare with the colours up. A quintet that should supply the winner comprises Nordie Song, Namara, XJrotector, Little Dorrit and Diana Tetrix, and form says most for the chances- of Protector. These Look Well. Winners will be difficult to find in all the other events, but some that appeal in their engagements.are Mai de Mer. | Anion, Besiege, and Ringshot. Horses that will be coupled' on. the totalisator to-morrow are the following: — MAIDEN PLATE.— Tui N.ui and Baalso, Aero Queen and Gaiwind, Land Girl and Privy Seal, Sen Acre and Tepoto, The Vamp and Tiverton.
