Council Decides to Repair Clock Tower

The repairing of tho Memoriai Clock Tower, tlie renewing of. parking lincs on the roads, the provisioit of aduxtional pede^trian crossings and an investigation of the blockage below tho railway briclgc by willows in the riverbed, were matters upion which decisions "v\Tere reaclied at tho monthly meeting of the Waipawa Borough Council. The deputy-Mayor, Mr F. Eagle, ^ preeided over Messrs H. T. Limbrick, F. It. Furminger, J. Barker, E. MacCregor; ihe overseer> Mr li. Petherick, was also present. Pennission was granted Mr Lawrence Beavis to play tfie guitay in the street on his way througlx AVaipawa with. his "Gospel yhip" whieh he is pushing through the North Island. A requost that the regulation governing gas discounts be waived in the case of the Abbotsford Home, as the monthly meetings of the board were not held till the 19th of each month, was granted. The town clerk of Hastings, Mr Noel C. Harding, foi'warded an industrial agreement governing municipai workers to be compietect and sealed Uy the town elerk and the Mayor of Waipawa. The (Jld Pupils' Association, AVaiiiawa, made appiication for a xebate in theatre rent ou account of damage resulting from a helper falling on the stairs at tho back of the theutre. Tlie association was advised that tho council coald not accept uny liability. The Marton and Dargaville borough councils wroto regar-dhig legislation governing workers m small gasworks. A lotter was also received from the Gasworks Association forwarding particulars of the proposed wages schedulo. Mr Eagle suggested that, as the Marton Borough Council had been instrumental in taking the matter up on a previous occasion, Waipawa should again fall into line with tliem. It was decided that the Marton Borough Council should be asked to move in the matter and Waipawa would accord its support. It was v decided to instal a tliree* burner hot plate in the theatre kitcheu, in place of the worn-out gas cooker, Parking Lines to Be Ronewed, Mr Eagle suggested that the doingup of the Memoriai Clock Tower should bc gone into as urgent repairs were necessary to the clock face. Mr Fnr» miuger suggested that a priee should Ijo obtained for ihe trhole work. Mr Eagle suggested that tcndora should be callcd, and this was carried. If prices at'O suitablo the finance committee will have power to act. Mr Eagle drew atteution to ihe blockage below the railway bt'xdge bv the growth of willows in tho riverbed. The overseer esplained that it would be necessary to have the trebs pulled out by a tractor to effect a clearance, tlfough it might be possibie to scour by digging a draiu throngh the blockagp. The overseer is to inspect the locality and report on the matter. Mr Eagle said that the parking lines were becoming obliterated and needed rcnewiug. If any change from angle parking was sought now would be the tinie to bring the matter up. Members wero of tlie opinion tliat tlie system was working satisfaetorily. Mr Furminger said tliere appeared to be a tendency for inotorists to park at an angle in placcs where the rule was not in forcc. Soino people wero also inclined to park ou the wi'png sicle.
