STOCK DAMAGED
Fire in Outfitting Shop in Napier Smoke caused considerable damage to stock in a fire which broke out iu the /men's outfitting store of Mr. Harold Kidson, at the corner of Emerson and Dalton streets, Napier, shortly aftei 8.30 this morning. A very prompt turnout by the Napier Central Fire Brigade stopped the fire before it had gained a hold on the wooden fittings near tho outbreak. Mr. Kidson had been in the shop only a few minutes when fire commenced in a case of papers beneath tho counter. A theory is advanced that the papers may have been smouldering since last evening, and were fanned into flaoie by the draught from the open door. The brigade turned out very promptly, and utilised a first-aid equipinent with" a very small jet of water to avoid damage to the contents of the shop. The fire was speedily extinguished, but considerable damage to stock was caused by the thiclc smoke. The loss, it is understood, is covered by insurance.
