EFFICIENT TRAFFIC CONTROL

Thousands of Motor-Cars on the Roads NO SERI0US H0LD-UP Traffie control was the problem that exercised the minds of the authorities' for the most pai't in connection with the match at Napier yesterday. In Napier for the day there were thousands upon thousands of motor-cars of varied sizes and designs, all of which had to be left scraewhere, and all of which had similarly to be removcd after. the game,- and it is a tribute to the efficient work of Ihe officers concerned that there was no serious holdup either before or after the match. The procession from both the south and north main roads commeneed before daybreak, but after 10 o'clock the stream of motor vehicles entering tho town was continuous, most of them making for the business area and then heading for the grounds in the optimistic belief that they would be able to park their cars at the gates and enter the grounds without trouble. On point duty at intersections in tho business area and near the ground there were the Napier traffie officers and special men recruited for duty during the day, officers from Hastings, and Automobile AssoCiation patrolmen from both the Hawke 's Bay and Wanganui associations. Their work was further complicated by the fact that many of the visitors had no knowledge of the town and were hesitant in their driving for this reason. Yet the work of regulating the traffie was performed in a aiost" efficient manner. It was those people who arrived at the park just before the game began who gained the most vivid conception of the number of motor-cars, taxis, buses, and lorries on the Napier streets yesterday. Both sides of Morris estreet, • the ma.in entrance to the ground, and of the adjoining Latham and McVay streets, and almost .the entirle length ~of Nelson Crescent were lined with cars. On the Parade, lines of ' parked vehicles extended on both sides of- the> roadway- in an almost unbroken length from the southern borough boundary- to • a point past the municipal baths more than a cnile away. No serious " accidents concerning motor -vehicles in Napier were reported to the 'poliee last evening.
