Crowd Kept Entertained Two curtain-raisers were played prior to the big game, the first commencing at 11.30 o'clock, at wrnch hour there were about 8000 people assemb|ed, and the crowd kept increasing at»a rapid rate. . The early game was the third-grado representative match, Hastings v. Napier, and after a splendid exhibition Hastings won by 18 points to 12. When Te Aute Gollege and tho Hastings - Napier junior representatives stepped out on to the field at one o'clock tho crowd numbered about 32,000, and the teams provided a thrilling exhibition -particularly in the second spell, when Te Aute initiated several brilliant movements that aroused considerable enthusiasm. With the wind in their favour in- the first spell the combined side ran up T6_ points to, nil> bnt. after the change-over the Collegiana. had a monopoly of the scoriug. - However, they just failed to overtake their oVjective, the - result being a win for Hastings-Napier by 16 points to 15.
