NATIONAL BALL A SUCCESSFUL WIND-UP TO SPRINGBOK MATCH

A very successful ball attended by several hundred dancers fro'm all parts of the district was organised by the Women' s Division of the Hawke's Bay electorate of the New Zealand National P%rty and held in the Hastings Assembly Hall last evening. The ball vras a very liappy finale to an exciting day for many who attended the Springboks football matchi, and among the dancers wero several members of the South African team. A briglit dinner party arranged by Miss Shena White was enjoyed hy a good number of young folk who later went on to the ball. The hall was decorated with dusters of bamboo intermingled with red rhododendrons and purply magnolias. feimiliar decorations were arranged along the back of the stage, while in froht were masses of brightest pink blossom, rhododendrons -and delicate greeiiery those responsible for the decorations were Mesdames W. G. Stead and J. C. Tosswill. Throughout the evening an excellent dance music programme was played by Lew Munro's orchestra. A very tempting buffet supper was enjoyed hy everyone, this having been arranged by Mrs Balharry. The long tables were gaily decorated with bowls of mixed flowers,' grape hyacinths, pink blossom, irises and other flowers. Mrs W. Harrison and the JVlisses Connie Symes and Shena "White were responsible for tliese decorations. The ball was most efficiently organised by Mrs A. I. Rainbow. Miss Mary Wilson was the secretary and the following comprised the committee; Mesdames J. 0. Tosswill, W. G. Stead, W. Et. Stead, J. N. Lowry, W. A. Wliitlock, Doole, T. A. Hill, W. H. Abbott, H. Harvey, E. Ormond, J. Landels, W. Harrison, R. Cashmore, D. Newbigin ; Misses M. Kelly, S. Russell, Connie Symes, Gladys Hardy, Taylor and Shena White. Among those present were: Mrs A. I. Rainbow, evening blouse of flame and gold brocade with handmade corsage flowers and a basquo offect, worn with a black skirt. Mrs W. G. Stead, gown of black chiffon flowered with sweet peas in shades of pink and green with a pleated taffeta frill at the hem and a black velvet coatee. Mrs "W. Abbott, black floral chiffon gown with a coatee of black Luffeta having stitched revers. Mrs Rush Munro, burgundy mariette gown with capo sleeves and a clasp of brilliants at the neck. Mrs A. C. A. Hyde, wine angelskin lace gown with a long shoulder spray of dcep cyclamen shaded flowers. Mrs Percy McHardy, black chantilly lace gown with trimming of black cire satm. Mrs R. D. Brown, lyric green souple satin gown with cape eft'eQt caught with a cluster of flowers ou one shoulder. Mra V. A. Thomson, spring green necdlerun lace with a cluster of red roses at the waist. Mrs P. J. Priest, midnighr blue heedlerun lace with silver girdle and silver corsage flowers. " ' Mrs W. Neilson, black matelasso gown with long sleeves beautifully embxoidered in silver beads. Mrs Jasper Herrick, periwinkle blue and silver brocade with trained skirt and uneven neekline. Mrs Eric Lambe, ivbry taffeta patterned with clusters of roses and having a stitched collar fiuishing the high neekline. Mrs L. Fowler, palest pink matelasse flowered with deeper pink and blue and having' short full sleeves. Mrs C. Broadhurst, black souple satin with latticed effect on the shoulder, s and red corsage flowers.
